The mermaid dreamed that she had reached the deepest of the deep blue seas to touch the other worldly coral reefs in the shades of a pink so tender it only reminded her of dusk lights on the surface of the sea. She breathed deep, and swam gently until she reached her destination. Then she danced in joy as her fingers touched the reef. The corals blushed.

This is a sand-rose coloured, handloom cotton, kimono tie-up sleeved, shawl collared, overlay dress with beautiful Herringbone hand embroidery accents.

Description

Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and is perfect for layering in winters.

The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.

The Herringbone hand-embroidery on the overlay garment is done by a group of beautiful women artisans at Suta. This dress has an easy-fit that allows space for freedom of movement, breathability and flow. This can be styled separately as well as part of an ensemble.

Ajoba wanted her to be raised close to nature. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, away from readymade routines. “Children sparkle in the lap of nature — amidst vales, rivulets and crickets,” he had shared in one of his letters. Named after his favourite Tagore character, Chitrangada, she felt pressured to become someone she was not. While daddy read Ajoba’s letter, she thought to herself, “I am not a warrior princess like Chitrangada. I am me.” But who’s she? For days and months, the question kept popping up. She had instructed her mind to keep it under wraps, in the corridors of confusion. But minds were never meant to be obedient.
